Address: 342 Elizabeth Street , Melbourne, VIC 3000
Elizabeth Street may not be the most attractive corner of Melbourne, but so what if the view isn't up to much? It's not like you'll be spending that long looking out of the windows when you have the startling interior by architect Brandon Yeoh to gawp at. The design is very much the thing here, at this Wallpaper-lauded bar on the southernmost corner of the Melbourne Central block. The downstairs restaurant, which offers contemporary Australian cuisine with Asian influences, has been fitted out with comfy banquettes and wallpaper in a series of bright pastels. Upstairs, the bar is a more monochrome affair with striking sculptural lighting. Most nights, DJs play a mix of house, funk and disco, the cocktails are inventive and well-executed, and the decent wine list is heavy on Australians.
